TroutTrack is a free web and mobile app that displays publicly available dam release and river gauge data from government agencies. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your information is used.

Information We Collect

Account information: If you create an account, we store your email address and a display name. Your password is hashed and never stored in plain text.

Saved dams: If you use the bookmark feature, we store the list of dams you've saved. This data is tied to your account and only visible to you.

Location: If you grant permission, we use your device location solely to sort dams by distance from you. Your location is processed in your browser and is not stored on our servers.

Contact messages: If you submit the contact form, we store your name, email, and message to respond to your inquiry.

Usage data: We collect anonymous analytics such as page views and feature usage to improve the app. This data is not linked to your identity.

Data We Do Not Collect

Third-Party Data Sources

TroutTrack displays data from government agencies including the Southwestern Power Administration (SWPA), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Bureau of Reclamation, USGS, and NOAA. These agencies may have their own privacy policies that apply when you visit their websites directly. TroutTrack only retrieves data from these sources — it does not send your personal information to them.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your account data and saved dams are retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the account menu in the app, which permanently removes your personal data and saved dams. Contact messages are retained for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry.

Children's Privacy

TroutTrack is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure password hashing. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
